I sit in the top of the wood, my eyes closed.
Inaction, no falsifying dream
Between my hooked head and hooked feet:
Or in sleep rehearse perfect kills and eat.

泰德·休斯Ted Hughes，英国诗人、儿童文学作家，休斯的诗歌笔触有力，情绪愤激，尤其擅写猛禽凶兽的动物诗。这首诗的主角，鹰，是丛林法则、暴政和权利的象征，人类社会又何尝不是如此?最后两行，鹰声称不会容许改变现状，或许也表现出诗人对世界的担忧。休斯本人也说：“事实上我想的是，在这只鹰身上是大自然在思索，简单说就是大自然自己。”
